Despite possessing one of the strongest militaries on earth and an immense arsenal of nuclear weapons, the United States remains unprotected. Politicians frequently discuss wars and rumors of wars with Russia, China, and various Middle Eastern nations, yet few address the spiritual enemies that seek to ruin souls and whisper murder and fraud into the ears of our countrymen. While America is involved to some degree in nearly every global conflict, it has declared itself proudly neutral in the war between heaven and hell—a position that does not exist.
In the Gospel of St. Luke, Jesus paints a vivid picture of spiritual warfare:
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest; and finding none he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first” (Luke 11:24–26, RSVCE).
This passage illustrates a soul liberated from demonic influence through exorcism. Yet, despite being freed, the man remains neutral, leaving his soul empty and unclaimed. He does not replace the expelled spirit with the Holy Spirit, nor does he invite God to dwell within him. The soul, though “swept and in order,” lacks divine protection, making it vulnerable to reinvasion by demons. So it is with a man, a family, or a nation without Christ. Even if liberated from evil in the past, without Christ’s active presence, demonic oppression and chaos will return with greater intensity.
Some may argue that this principle applies only to individual souls, not to nations. However, Scripture suggests otherwise. Moses wrote, “When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he fixed the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God” (Deuteronomy 32:8). The “sons of God” are spiritual beings, the angels, who assist God in governing the world (Job 1–2; 38:7; Psalm 82). We see this spiritual governance in action when an angel appears to the Prophet Daniel:
“Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your mind to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, so I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia” (Daniel 10:12–13).
St. Paul further confirms this, describing the devil as “the god of this world [who] has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the likeness of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Demons are deeply invested in subjecting and ruling nations, even if governments ignore this spiritual reality. Yet God has not left humanity defenseless against the gods and demons of this world. He made Himself the protector of His covenant people (Deuteronomy 32:9). God told Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses you I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless themselves” (Genesis 12:3).
Later, He specifies, “All the nations of the earth will bless themselves in your seed because you have heard my voice” (Genesis 22:18, my translation). This “seed” is Christ (Galatians 3:16). Jesus Himself declared, “The prince of this world will be cast out” (John 12:31, my translation).
Only through Christ can nations be placed under rightful spiritual authority; without Him, they remain under the devil’s dominion. Many of the colonies that became the United States formally professed Christ and established branches of Christianity. However, upon declaring independence, the United States became the first secular nation in history. Although some states continued to recognize Christ post-independence, today neither the federal government nor any of the 50 states officially acknowledge Him. Despite occasional references to God or Christ, all reject Christianity as a state religion and often oppose legislating Christian morality. Consequently, the United States bears the largest spiritual target of any nation on earth.
Like the man exorcised in Luke’s Gospel, the U.S. is spiritually neutral and unprotected. Without divine presence, the nation is vulnerable to an army of unclean spirits. The demons have returned in greater numbers, stronger and more vicious than before. Rampant murder, economic inequality, and political corruption will only worsen unless Christ expels the forces dividing the nation. For peace to prevail, the Prince of Peace must reign. Therefore, the United States must proclaim itself a Christian nation, returning to the faith of its founders to secure a future for its people. If Christ is not given His rightful place, He will take this republic and give it to a people who will recognize Him and bear fruit. The Cristero Party stands firmly in the belief that Christ must be proclaimed in every heart, family, county, state, and in Washington, D.C. Every inch of land that does not proclaim Christ is already conquered by the enemy.
To maintain independence, end violence, and dismantle the idols of greed that destroy homes and futures, we must invite Christ to transform our swords into plowshares, feed the hungry, and clothe the naked. Only by expelling the prince of this world, who turns us against each other and against God, can peace be restored. Peace comes only when Christ is King.
